The trombone is pitched in the key of Bb. That means that the note you play in first position is B Flat. The trombone reads in "C" or concert pitch, which means that if you play a B flat in first position, a B flat comes out of the bell. This is as opposed to Trumpets, Clarinets, Tenor Saxes, and some Baritones, who read in "Bb," meaning that when they play a written C on the page, a B flat note comes out of their horn. Alto Saxophones actually read in "Eb," or a sixth away from concert pitch. This was originally done to avoid reading a lot of ledger lines and so wind players could easily change back and forth between instruments without having to learn a new key signature.
If you should read a piece of music in Treble clef, (more common with Euphoniums and Baritones but not at all unheard of) then you are going to be transposing. If you play a "C" in Treble clef, it will come out as a B flat (Bb) on your horn.
So, a Trombone's home scale is B flat, they read in concert pitch or "C," but when reading music in the treble clef, they read in "Bb" same as the Trumpets, Baritones, and Euphoniums
